What a knowledge base is

A knowledge base groups related documents and lets you reuse them across several agents. An agent can consult only the bases you explicitly select.

Create a knowledge base

  1. Select Knowledge in the Studio main navigation.
  2. Select New base.
  3. Enter a recognizable name, such as Sales documentation.
  4. Optionally add a description of its contents.
  5. Select Create base.

Use separate bases when documents have different owners, purposes, or access levels.

Add documents

Open Documents inside the base and select Upload document. Studio accepts PDF, Word, and Excel documents.

After upload, the document is indexed. Wait until its status is Indexed before using it in a test.

The main statuses are:

  • Pending: waiting to be processed.
  • Indexing: Inceptiva is preparing the content.
  • Indexed: available to authorized agents.
  • Error: processing failed and the file needs review.

Review visibility

Each document can be classified as internal, confidential, citable, or public. This classification affects how source information may be shown.

Classify documents before allowing an agent to show references, excerpts, or links to the original content.

Connect the base to the agent

  1. Open Agents and select the agent.
  2. Open Knowledge.
  3. Select the bases it may consult.
  4. Select Save sources.

The selection applies to the whole agent. Each channel can enforce a more restrictive source exposure level.

Check the result

Return to Studio inside the agent and ask a question whose answer clearly appears in a document. If the agent cannot find it, review the document status, selected base, and wording of the question.
